The CTEMF crew have really outdone themselves this time around!!! It was announced yesterday who the headliners are for its 2014 installment, and it undoubtedly created a huge frenzy on all social media and was at the tip of every electronic music enthusiasts tongue the entire day. Most people were in awe at not only the quality of the lineup, but the quantity of it too.
The headliners for CTEMF are none other than Noisia, who is headlining the BASS category. South African Jazzy Jay, headlining the Hip Hop category and headlining the House category is German heavyweight Dixon. This can be described as nothing less than a milestone not only for Cape Town, but also South Africa. It shows that it is possible to host an event of this calibre at the highest quality, which includes top international and South African artists from different corners of the electronic music spectrum in South Africa.
It is hoped that an event like this will help pave the way to more events of this quality and nature. That it will prove you do not need to settle for one or two ‘big names’ but can aim higher. It shows how far the music industry in South Africa has come, in order for us to be able to host international artists of this standard but also the fact that our own homegrown artists are up to these ‘standards’, and as many could argue they even exceed them. There is no question, CTEMF is taking Cape Town in the right direction.
Other international artists which have been confirmed is UK BASS titan Benga, who is one-third of the trio Magnetic Man, and co-hosts the Skream & Benga show on BBC Radio 1. Dirtybird Records will be represented by two of its finest, Justin Martin & J.Phlip. The last of the international acts is the duo HVOB who hail from Vienna, and have been making many waves in the international electronic music scene since the launch of their debut album in March.
From South Africa you can expect Protoculture, Black Coffee, Portable, Haezer, Culoe De Song joined by Jullian Gomes, Crazy White Boy and Dirty Paraffin (Duo of Okmalumkoolkat & Dokta SpiZee).
